KIKStart- approved!
A day at the DTI-Makati
20.02.2008
After our post-valentines day and night date ;-) , Kiko and I went to DTI yesterday to register our business name. we arrived at Trafalgar Plaza around 9:00 am. Guess what our number was? 117. Good thing we were able to get one, because the man at the foyer said he only issued 120 numbers. Whew!
What really got to me was how the applicants were treated by the DTI employees. There was this 60-ish looking guy who had a very loud voice and sounded so condescending everytime he was conversing with an applicant. It was as if he felt that everyone who goes to the DTI office should already have a clear-cut idea of what to do, where to go and what to write on the forms. He was telling an older guy that he should have cancelled the agreement for franchise before he applied for a new one under the same name. By the end of the discussion, the older guy had no choice but to "come back tomorrow".
.
Another employee, whose job was to print out the certificates, kept on texting while waiting for the computer to work. You see, ever since I applied via the web for our business name, it kept on giving me the error message that the website was down and they were working on having the problem resolved. In the meantime, web applications cannot be processed and we would need to apply in person. So this woman kept saying, "Hay naku, ayaw nanaman tumakbo ng computer." Then she'd proceed to text. Baka plano nya sumali sa Texting Competition. Practice makes perfect nga naman.

Nag cut-off pa sila ng lunch time. Hindi uso ang skeletal staff dito. Lunch kung lunch. Kiko and I had no choice but to have lunch first. By this time, 75Php na ang computation ko sa parking fee namin. Good thing Chowking was efficient and we arrived back at the 12th floor just in time to take the last of the few seats available in the waiting area.
One good thing also happened here, I ran into Brews (Brewster Balceda), my high school friend's hubby. He still looked the same. Actually, in love ako sa love story nung dalawa na yun. Si Roma at Brewster. It was nice catching up with him on how things were.
Finally, around 2:30pm, "Francis Morales!" called out the releasing officer. He went to sign the certificate. On our way out, I was scanning the certificate... "Oooi, wrong spelling!, tingnan mo." His middle name was misspelled. He returned the certificate and we had to endure another 30 - 40 minutes waiting for the computer to re-load the file and print a new one.
By the time we made it back to the van, manong guard (sa parking lot) was quite agitated (side line lang kse ni manong mag pa-park dun, for employees lang dapat).
But overall, Im happy, kase na-approve na ang aming business name. We can finally have the tarp printed. Here's Kiko's suggested design:
